In one sentence, most unwanted hair growth is caused by temporary methods of hair removal, heredity, age, hormonal changes, it could also be medication or stress related and even where a part of your skin is irritated on the surface regularly.

Superfluous hair growth is often the result of normal biological changes that ladies undergo throughout life. As a woman advances through puberty, pregnancy, childbirth and menopause, she experiences fluctuations in hormone levels which may cause increased hair growth in an area that has never before been affected.

Excessive hair may also be due to such diverse causes as heredity, certain medications and stress. It is often associated with a dysfunction of the endocrine system such as irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders or thyroid irregularities.

Many males experience hair growth on their shoulders, nape, back, upper cheeks and other areas that they deem unsightly. As we age it is normal for ladies and gents to lose hair on their lower extremities and grow more hair on their upper bodies (except the top of the head - unfortunately), because of different hormones "feeding" different types of hair on our bodies.

Your Electrologist is trained to recognize those symptoms which may require referral to a physician.
