Electrolysis is…

The only Permanent Hair Removal that works for everyone. Electrolysis treats all hair colors, all skin colors, all hair types, all parts of the body*, men and women. It is also the only permanent solution to unwanted hair approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It was first used in 1875 by ophthalmologist Dr. Charles E. Michel to treat ingrowing eyelashes.  Electrolysis thus having more than 135 years of medical studies and documentation as validation of its safety and effectiveness.

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that involves the gentle insertion of a very fine, single use and sterile filament or needle into the hair follicle. The hair follicle is a natural opening in ones skin therefore the filament slides into the opening rather than puncturing the skin.

A mild electrical pulse is then briefly applied to the bottom of the hair follicle which over a series of treatments destroys the papilla at the base of the hair follicle.

Once the hair has been successfully treated, it is lifted from the follicle with a pair of tweezers. You should hardly feel the hair being pulled from the follicle as the hair needs to slide out easily. If you are aware of the hair being pulled out the hair has not been successfully treated and the hairs are merely being plucked out. If this happens frequently, you need to discuss the matter with your Electrologist as some minor changes to your individual treatment plan can remedy this. Seek other advice if plucking is still an issue after discussing the matter.

Electrolysis is not a one-time treatment but a series of treatments. Factors that influence the total amount of treatment required to successfully eliminate a hair differs from person to person. Hair that has been plucked or waxed repeatedly over a long period of time takes longer to eliminate completely. Other factors needing consideration and possible causes of superfluous hair growth could be heredity, hormonal changes, or as a result of medication, illness or a medical procedure. Stress can also be a factor. For some individuals, facial hair growth could be an ongoing problem. These issues will all be discussed during your complimentary consultation.

The most important factor in having success with Electrolysis is consistency as well as the frequency of treatment. It is very important to catch the hair in its active growth stage, so not waiting too long between treatments is essential.

Another factor to remember is that the hair visible to you above the skin’s surface is not your only hair as hair grows in cycles and the next cycle are in early growth stage underneath the surface of the skin. If you have been waxed before you would have experienced some hair returning only a few days after the treatment where other hair may take a few weeks to return.  Therefor you need your Electrologist treating each hair as it appears. The frequency of the treatments varies from one person to the next, they could be as frequent as once a week or as far apart as every 8 weeks.

Once you start Electrolysis treatment it is very important to cease all hair removal methods that requires plucking hair from the skin. Plucking creates a trauma to the skin, blood rushes to the area to repair the trauma, bringing with it hormones that “fertilize” the area and causing the hair to become more coarse. These hormones also “fertilizes” the surrounding facial hair, causing a greater problem than what you initially started out with.

Common treatment areas for women are the chin, jawline, upper lip, throat, sides of face, eyebrows, chest, abdomen, breasts, bikini line, underarms, hairline, fingers and toes, legs and arms.

Common treatment areas for men are the back (including shoulders), torso, outer part of the ears, brows, cheeks, beard line and other areas where ingrown hairs can cause problems, neckline, groin, hands and feet among others areas.

Transgender females often require full beard removal and pre-surgery genital hair removal among other treatment areas.
